About Us
Sabre has been “Making Grown Men Cry Since 1975!” Today, Sabre is still owned and run by the same family who started it, so we know how important it is to keep your loved ones safe (even crazy Uncle Bud). When it comes to personal safety, we are as serious as Sabre spray is hot!
For example, Sabre is dedicated to ensuring that our product is safe, effective, up to the highest standards, and satisfies our customers’ needs. Our sprays are so effective that even top notch police agencies, like world-renowned NYPD, are loyal to Sabre pepper spray.
| Sabre has trained thousands of men in blue for over 15 years. One day,* we asked ourselves, Why are we only training the police when regular people, like you and me, are truly the most vulnerable? So, in 2008, Sabre enlisted safety gurus and law enforcement officers to help develop the Personal Safety Academy (PSA). | ![]() |
PSA offers the same skills to the general public as officers receive, but with a focus on evading the bad guy rather than chasing him. We teach common peeps how to stop a threat at a safe distance and then run like mad. While we can’t teach you how to run faster, we do teach you how to use Sabre sprays effectively to give you more time and space to escape.
Getting away safely is critical, but we aspire to teach people how to act so they never need to use our product. Ultimately, if a PSA grad holds on to the same canister of spray until it expires without ever needing to press the button, then we have succeeded (although, they’d be smart to buy a new one at this point).
Our mission didn’t stop with just any old civilian though, no way. After learning that college students are 4x’s more likely to be sexually assaulted than any other age group and that nearly 10,000 college students are robbed and severely assaulted each year, we felt that darn pang of responsibility again.
College students find themselves in a peculiar position: for the first time, they assume full responsibility for their safety while simultaneously navigating innumerable other obstacles on campus – like cafeteria food, making new friends, and snoring roommates. Therefore, personal safety should be a priority, but it shouldn’t be a chore. So, ta da! Sabre presents the College Safety Program.
These classes cater to every student: male and female, athletes and klutzes, large and petite. Anyone can learn how to "Multiply Your Force" with our simple and memorable tools & techniques specific to college living.
With 300+ certified Sabre instructors, we proudly service the general public and college students in over 35 United States…and counting. Register to find out which of our Sabre instructors teaches near you.
When you complete the College Safety or any PSA class, we will make a donation to RAINN, the largest national anti-sexual abuse organization. To learn more about the College Safety Program curriculum and how to Multiply Your Force, click here.
*It didn’t all happen in one day. If you want to hear the long version, just ask us!
This College Safety class is no joke, but we know you’ll have fun! The main lessons include how to:
- Discourage dangerous threats
- Identify and avoid potentially dangerous situations
But you can do everything right and some days you just can't avoid Murphy's Law (loosely meaning, "if anything can go wrong, it eventually will"). So, we also prepare you to:
- Protect yourself at a safe distance
- Use personal safety sprays effectively and responsibly
- Escape an attacker and get to safety
1. Class-Room Instruction (~1 hour) Okay, okay. It’s a power point presentation, but some slides have words and pictures fly on and off the screen! If you’re not too mesmerized by these animations, you will learn critical behavioral and mental skills designed to help keep you safe on- and off-campus. It’s nothing fancy, but definitely memorable because we know you have enough responsibility on your proverbial plate.
Part A: The Sabre Mindset2. Hands-On Training (~1 hour) Here you get to stretch your legs and strut your stuff. In this segment, we prepare you mentally and physically using repetitive hands-on drills. And we don’t stop ‘til you get enough! Our methods are no-impact and emphasize the importance of, first, deterring an attacker. Then, through a variety of real-life simulations, you learn how to keep or create separation between you and the attacker using instinctual physical defensive techniques. Then finally, you get to spray somebody! (Don’t worry, it’s water.)
We flip a switch in your brain (non-invasively). We teach you how to get into the mind of an attacker. Then, we teach you simple ways to deter him from taking away your happiness. With confidence, you will not only deter threats from occurring, but you will be able to handle a threatening situation with clarity, determination, and the least amount of injury
Part B: Multiply Your Force
It’s multi-dimensional: take personal responsibility for your personal safety, be a guardian for your fellow students, build confidence, handle a threatening situation with clarity, protect yourself without much strength or skill- like using personal safety spray.
|
Cost: The class costs $25 per student. This includes three inert practice sprays, two hours with a certified Sabre instructor, and one Sabre “Safety Tips in Your Hand” notepad/pen. Do the math though. With just two hours of focus on personal safety, you are exponentially improving your life experience across 4 years of college and beyond. The class is actually priceless…but it can be yours for just $25! |
